Shannon shares her miraculous story of being relieved of many debilitating symptoms that began 10 years ago with migraine headaches, TMJ / TMD, and insomnia. Despite ups and downs, her symptoms were getting progressively worse over time. Partial agenesis of the posterior arch of the atlas happens in a small percentage of individuals and may often remain asymptomatic. It may affect the normal function of the rectus capitis posterior minor, nuchal ligament, and also negatively affect the stability of the cervicocranial junction. Elongated styloid processes may interfere with the carotid sheath (carotid artery, internal jugular vein, vagus nerve, and sympathetic chain) as well as interfere with other tissues' normal function.

Kendra shares her story of her recovery from disabling dizziness. Kendra suffered from drop attacks since she was a child. Potential causes could be that she had a degree of craniocervical instability from birth / congenitally - and her body - as she developed - figured out a way to express health even with this potential underlying pathology. After having her first child she experienced new onset disabling dizziness - and after a long journey - has obtained 98-100% symptomatic and functional improvement. Some of her digital motion x-ray have been shared, with her approval - demonstrating significant C0-C2 instability, which while excessive motion still remains today - she was able to reclaim her health, her peace, her function, and return to all normal activities with a specific and detailed plan of postural improvement, cervical curve correction, and specific tendon dry needling. Kendra also asked me to share that along her healing journey there were many ups and downs with significant mental and emotional distress as to why she wasn't respond to many therapeutic interventions and if she would ever get better. The connections between the neck and proprioception are fairly well established, however the connection between the neck and the vestibular system are less understood. Dr. Brian proposes that a connection between them may be two fold: Poor jugular vein drainage causing accumulation and stagnation of blood in the ear and due to nearby pressure accumulation contributing to alteration in the vestibular system; and I also propose that suboccipital, SCM and potentially other tendons such as the splenius capitis, stylohyoid, digastric, and other tendinopathies can contribute to sympathetic dominant paracrine signaling to nearby structures, contributing to a more chronic sympathetic response / tone of these neighboring structures as well - altering the normal homeostasis and function of such tissues. Chronic debilitating pain - to Thriving! Ehlers Danlos, hypermobility, upper cervical instability
Martin was in a near fatal car accident over 4 years ago. He has been in and out of the hospital many times - being hospitalized at one point for an entire month. Martin had made some progress over the 4 years, but was still mostly confined to being at home, unable to work, needing to lay down most of the day, and not able to socialize much with friends or family. He has since returned to part time work, on most days is feeling energetic from morning until night, back to socializing with friends and family, able to sit through church without feeling terrible discomfort - and is very excited that he is getting his life back. Against All Odds: From Near Fatal Car Crash to Comeback Story - Martins Miraculous Recovery 🌟
Lizzy, developed severe POTS symptoms following a traumatic fall while filming a TikTok video with her husband during COVID and has been generous to share her story of her progress thus far.   POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is one of those elusive conditions where the origins are not always clear. Lizzy shared with me that there are even large 'support groups' who encourage people to stop looking for answers to why they have POTS, and to accept that they will have to live with severe and often debilitating forms of POTS forever. This may be the case for some individuals; however, based on my experience, I believe that a large percentage of those who experience POTS have the potential to reduce and or eliminate symptoms even to the point where they no longer would continue to fit the criteria necessary for a POTS diagnosis. While the underlying source is often elusive, difficult to diagnose - and may be multifactorial, the structural components of vagus nerve irritation and structural impingement of blood vessels by abnormal spinal curvatures and poor stability structures (tendons and ligaments) is a promising area for future research. At 7:45 Lizzy's open-mouth lateral bending view shows an increase (improvement) in the joint space between C1 and C2 with lateral bending in relation to when she first sought care with us. This infers that the C1 has a reduced anterior (forward) sliding over C2 - which can reduce structurally abnormal forces on nerves and blood vessels that may contribute to the development of POTS symptoms.
