To keep it very simple: Jax had neck issues caused by poor posture, lots of time spent gaming, and quick growth during his teen years. His neck’s top vertebrae became unstable, and his muscles and ligaments weakened. This was compressing and irritating important things - leading to constant pain, tension and debilitating neurologic symptoms, especially on one side. This made it hard for him to relax and really affected his daily life.

After a few sessions of a treatment called tendon dry needling and learning better posture, Jax felt much better. His symptoms decreased by over 80%, and he got back to feeling healthier and more energetic. Jax’s case shows that, sometimes, simple treatments can make a big difference, even when neck problems seem serious.

In greater detail: Jax struggled with debilitating symptoms linked to a breakdown in the cervical spine structure. Years of forward head posture, abnormal positioning, and prolonged hours spent playing video games--combined with rapid growth during adolescence--resulted in significant musculoskeletal strain, tendinopathy, breakdown in spinal curvature, and ligament laxity. These factors culminated with chronic neurological symptoms that greatly affected his quality of life.

Diagnostic Findings: Diagnostic evaluation revealed notable instability at C1/2, including abnormal lateral overhang and a significant change in the para-odontoid space bilaterally. This type of instability is associated with laxity in the alar and accessory ligaments of the upper cervical spine.

Additional diagnostics revealed abnormalities in the anterior-posterior (AP) alignment of the cervical spine, with lateral translations and shoulder asymmetry--specifically, a persistent pulling of the left shoulder inward and upward toward the neck, creating a sense of tension and an inability to relax.

Treatment and Recovery: Through a conservative treatment approach focused on therapeutic dry needling for tendinopathies and superficial ligaments, alongside posture awareness coaching, Jax achieved more than 80% improvement in his symptoms within 7 visits. Over time, his symptomatic flares became less frequent, and his overall health, function, and vitality have shown significant improvement. Jax's experience underscores the potential for meaningful recovery, even in the face of complex structural issues, and highlights the power of early, minimally or least invasive interventions.

An important and insightful aspect of Jax's case is the degree of C1/2 instability he presented with. Given the severity of the instability, if Jax had begun care with a more invasive treatment plan, such as regenerative medicine targeting deeper ligaments or a fusion surgery, the cost of care would have been significantly higher, both financially and in terms of potential side effects or risks.

This outcome parallels findings from a recent study published in PubMed Central (PMC8842184), which investigated the prevalence of rotator cuff tears in asymptomatic individuals. In this study, 80% of individuals who underwent shoulder MRIs showed evidence of rotator cuff tears, yet all of the individuals examined were asymptomatic and therefore did not require surgical nor regenerative medicine intervention. This study highlights a critical point: structural abnormalities, while present, do not always correlate with pain or dysfunction. In many cases, the body can adapt to structural variations within a certain degree and still express full function and health.

This being said, many individuals with structural health injuries and pathologies will require more complex, higher level, deeper regenerative injections - and/or surgical procedures.

Chronic fatigue, Anxiety, Heart palpitations, Tachycardia, Insomnia - Upper Cervical Instability

Austin traveled from San Diego for care. He has been gracious to share his story on how he obtained relief from years of progressively worsening symptoms despite being told by neurologists, upper cervical chiropractors, holistic medicine doctors, physical therapy and others that there was no way his symptoms were coming from his neck.

He had an accident when he was younger, and he had a lot of pain since that accident. Over the last 4-5 years the pain got very bad, and the headaches were daily, constant, with no reprieve - they were 'ruining his life'

He was told that since he was holding alignment from upper cervical chiropractic, and that the 'curve didn't matter', that at least he could be sure that his symptoms weren't coming from his neck.

A naturopath sent him for blood work, and he went down an entire path thinking that his symptoms were related to mold toxicity.

A neurologist told him that he had intractable chronic migraines and there is nothing you can do about it, there is no solution, and you have to learn how to live with it.

Austin felt like his life was becoming so small, he was cutting things out of his life because he didn't have the energy or focus to do them - he felt like he was in a 'little box in his mind'. He only had so much capacity to focus, so he primarily dedicated that energy to work. It was very miserable every single day.

After his week of care with us, he slowly noticed improvements week after week, with his continuing curve correction homework - he began feeling like his mind and life have been opened back up - he states he is feeling more and more like the person he is meant to be.

He states that his body now wants to live in a natural, happy state - rather than a tight, dark, depressed state - he is now able to bounce back out of any flare ups on his own.

Austin states that he would have extreme fatigue associated with the headaches - horrible brain fog, horrible fatigue - rolling into work getting ready to start his day - thinking, how am I going to get through this - how am I going to do this. The brain fog, fatigue, inability to sit still, having to lay down randomly throughout the day - his body just couldn't handle it.

His energy has been up big time, he is doing a lot more of his hobbies - fishing, golfing.

Zach shares his amazing healing story from severe and debilitating symptoms arising from abnormal cervical spinal curvature and very significant atlanto axial ( C1 / C1 ) instability. Zach has had a history of multiple injuries and a previous spinal fusion.

Zach had a collective C1/2 instability of 14.5mm between right (7.7mm) and left (6.8mm) - This amount of C1/C2 instability is considered to be significant to extremely severe.

For Zach, we used a HALO Hutcheson harness with a specific weight tailored for his case, and a Cervical belt with appropriate weight for his individual case. He wore these standing weights daily for a few months to improve his cervical spine curvature enough to contribute to an improvement in neurologic and functional health status - and subsequently has experienced an approximate 90% reduction in his entire list of symptoms.

Zach also had swallowing issues, speech issues, terrible clavicle pain and swelling in his clavicle and neck, and more.

Joseph traveled from New York for care and has offered to share his story of a complete recovery after experiencing debilitating symptoms such as pain, dizziness, neck pain, nausea, muscle spasms and generally feeling sick and unwell - which was much worse in the mornings and also with activity - which were significantly limiting his ability to function daily. These symptoms began after he slipped and fell in his kitchen.

Joseph sought care by numerous skilled practitioners and was unable to get a significant enough recovery to return to work and activities that he enjoys.

The missing links that we found in Josephs case were significant tilting of C1 (due to curvature and tendinopathy related origins), suboccipital tendinopathy, and the presence of an anteriorly translated cervical spine curvature. Josephs cervical spine did have a lordosis, but the lordosis was too far forward in relation to where the center of gravity of his body was. (This can cause structural irritation and compression of the carotid sheath, vagus nerves, sympathetic nerves, alterations in normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow (abnormal spinal curvatures have been shown to cause this), jugular veins, carotid arteries, subclavian vessels, and on occasion with other concurrent findings, the brachiocephalic vessels / trunk. This type of presentation currently remains not well appreciated or fully understood. We use the HALO Hutcheson harness to help pull the lower cervical spine posteriorly - reducing exaggerated forward presentation of the lower cervical spine and perform tendon dry needling to areas affected by tendinopathy which are contributing to a chronic degenerative shortening and persistent isometric contraction of the associated muscles, subsequently pulling the spine into this aberrant and dysfunctional position.

Joseph still has some tilting of the Atlas (C1), but it is now able to be reduced with only holding 8lbs in the left hand, versus initially requiring 18lbs to effectively create enough elongation / stretch on the associated musculature for the tilting to be eliminated. His continued homework and care plan should help to even more significantly resolve the remaining pathology that could contribute to a return of symptoms in the future - keeping him feeling well for the long term.

There is always a threshold for how much dysfunction or abnormal objective findings an individual can tolerate before nervous system dysregulation produces symptoms. Many of us are in some shape or form 'ticking time bombs' and we encourage spinal hygiene / maintenance to all human beings, much like we brush and floss our teeth both for hygiene and also as a preventative to avoid a worsening condition from developing.
